                 Activity: RESEARCH & FINDINGS (SOFTWARE)



           BLYNK APPLICATION:





The software that needs to be used to develop this project is Blynk Application. Figure 3.3.1 shows the starting interface of the Blynk Application. Blynk is one of the platforms that is being used by iOS and Android OS to control Arduino, NodeMCU, Raspberry Pi and several other boards over the internet. It was designed for the Internet of Things and can control the hardware by remotely. Blynk also can store data, show sensor data, visualize it and do several other things.

In IFTTT Application, IFTTT gets its name from the programming restrictive articulation "if this, then that." IFTTT is both a mobile application and a website that propelled in 2010 and has the motto "Put the internet to work for you". The idea is that you simply utilize IFTTT to automatize everything from your most favorite applications and website to application empowered extras and smart devices. What the corporate gives is a software system platform that connects devices, applications, and services from entirely unexpected developers to trigger one or additional automation involving those devices, applications, and services. Here, IFTTT application is utilized to overcome any issues or in a specific word is to bridge the gap between the Google Assistant commands and therefore the Blynk application.


Details about the project,
Introduction:
  • This project is to allow users to monitor their own home based appliances by using voice control (Google Assistant)
  • To enable remote activation and deactivation of electrical appliances.  
  • Encourages power savings as well as promotes safety.

Problem statement:

  • A huge amount of energy is wasted due to appliances running unnecessarily. Too much wastage of energy resources and higher electricity cost because of this.
  • People have a trouble of forgetting to switch off home appliances. 
  • The elderly and differently abled person on a wheelchair who cannot reach the switch for the switching on/off the appliances


Objectives:

  • To design a voice recognition home automation system. Will enable the user to control the electrical appliance in the home using their voice as the medium that will control the power system.
  • To construct a NodeMCU ESP8266 module to enable communication between the appliance and the external cell phone.
  • To strengthen the basic knowledge about the software and application used Blynk & IFTTT.


Previous Project:

  • Wireless technology using ZigBee. It can control devices and send a data but ZigBee has a low transmission rate and only suitable to be used for short distance application.
  • Bluetooth based technology. Its able to monitor and control the lighting status with remotely and wirelessly. Unfortunately, slow data speeds, port data security and have a short range (10m).
  • GSM technology. Used to send information by using SMS but it will cost when to communicate between user and system.
